long time no see; a mixture of massive productivity and crippling depression.

last month i finished my stint at the amazing nottoscale studios, and you can now see the adverts for e.on i helped out on airing on channel 4, or here at nottoscale's vimeo channel. it was an amazing experience, and one i hope will be the first of many.

now is the time for completing the final two nursery rhymes of my project with olive pictures. a little concept art to whet your appetite!

so! two exciting pieces of news. the first is that i am half way through an internship with nottoscale, an amazing production company who have so kindly given me a chance to help out on one of their current projects. it's fantastic working under such great producers and directors, and with such talented animators, just to be in that environment and study their work. i feel so grateful for this opportunity.

secondly, a piece of work that i put a lot of time and heart into has finally gone live. last year i worked with oxbridge baby on a series of fairy tales and nursery rhymes, along with a host of other talented animators, musicians and actors, and the first of these, sleeping beauty, is now online for viewing! i certainly would love to know what you guys think.

a few stills.

it certainly made me want to do more children's illustration and animation. are you working on a project that might need a helping hand? don't hesitate to get in touch, my contact details are on the wee sidebar.

i checked out the d&ad new blood show last weekend, and it was inspiring in that depressing way where everyone is amazing and you feel very small and humbled. i'm not sure yet how to turn this into a positive creative energy. it overwhelms me to know how many incredible young artists there are out there.

a doodle for today!

just a silly something.

my dilemma lately has been: to shade or not to shade? i find myself veering more and more towards a flatter, more wholly 'cartoonish' look. barely even a single gradient on these! the horror! i worry it is laziness, but i also do love the outcome. just letting the colours and lines speak for themselves.

i went to see x-men: first class and it was crazygood. as we all know, i love hipsters, and now i love x-men, so here's what came of that!

just a couple of things from recent weeks.

hopefully i have a really exciting opportunity coming up next month...more info if it all works out!

and finally, a year after its completion, here is my graduate film in all its glory. i'm not entirely happy with it, and i feel like there are things i would do differently if i had another chance, but i also know that it was a good, rich process, full of learning and love.

just a little something i whipped up for my workplace. just for fun!

in my most recent project, there was one clip that ended up not being the right fit for the piece. the style, while i liked it, lacked the bright oomph needed for a children's nursery rhyme. it is always disappoint to scrap work and re-do it, but i always learn something from it too, and i am trying to take away that the work was not necessarily 'bad', just not right at the time. it was fun to draw, so i wanted to share a few shots with you.

i recently did some illustrations for a friend's story. it was lovely to ink something by hand, after the intensely digital projects i've been doing recently.
